SULPHURDALE Sulphurdale (Beaver) was three miles south of Cove Fort, near I-15. Sulphur was discovered at the site in the mid-1850s. A mine was established in 1870 by Charles Dickart, who was then the U.S. Deputy Surveyor. The site was not completely developed until 1883 when it received a temporary name of Morrisey for the man who developed the area. The small settlement grew but the sulphur was of unreliable quality. The community was abandoned after the owner died and is now a ghost town located on private property. For a short period of time it was Utah's only sulphur-producing mine. John W. Van Cott |
