Mount Emmons (Duchesne) is near Altonah and Boneta and is thirty miles south of its namesake, Mount Emmons. In 1914 E. A. Daniels laid out the townsite and named it Banner. The name was later changed to Mount Emmons.
Mount Emmons (the mountain) is in the south central section of the Uinta Mountains. Kings Peak is six miles northwest. The mountain was named for Samuel Franklin Emmons, an American geologist who graduated from Harward and was the U.S. Geological Survey field chief for the projects in this region.
