MORONI

Moroni is six miles west of Mount Pleasant on U-116 and U-132. The settlement had an early name of Mego for a local friendly Indian, and Sanpitch for a local Indian chief. In 1859 the community was organized as a ward and George Peacock of Manti suggested Moroni as the new name. Moroni was an important figure in the Book of Mormon. A statue of Moroni is on the Salt Lake temple.
