The Provo River (Utah/Wasatch) originates at Washington Lake in the west Uinta Mountains. It drains southwest into Utah Lake. The river had the early name of Timpanogotzis (Tumpanowach) for the Indians living along its banks. The early white settlers decided to name the river after Proveau and transfer the old name to the mountain to the north, which became Mount Timpanogos. |
