Malad River (Box Elder) drains south from Idaho into Utah and the Bear River. Donald Mackenzie, a French-Canadian trapper from the Hudson Bay Company, is given credit for naming the river. He and his men became ill after eating beaver meat. "Malade" is French for "sick." Fremont called the river the Reseaux River. |
