Basin (Grand) is on the western slopes of Mount Waas in the La Sal Mountains. Moab is eighteen miles west. Basin was a miner's settlement which developed in 1898 and received its name from the Miners Basin Mining District. After 1908, the settlement declined rapidly as mining activity decreased.
