Vineyard (Utah) incorporated in 1989. Is a 6.4 squaremile (16.5 km2) area bordered on the east by Orem and on the west with ca. 3 mi of Utah Lake shoreline. Of the 6.4 square mile area 4.4 square miles (11.3 km2) is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2), or 31.53%, is water.

The origen of the name Vineyard is credited to John Gillies who planted the first grapevines in the community. During the ten year census period 2010 - 2020 the population grew from 139 to 12,543 making it during that time the fastest growing city in Utah and belongs to the Provo-Orem Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Geneva Steel now closed contributed not only to Utah county economically but specifically to Vineyard where the mill was located.

In 2014 Utah Valley University purchased 125 acres of the Geneva Steel site in order to expand to a new "West" Campus. The UVU West Campus is located across I-15 from the Orem Campus, and it houses programs in health professions and the National Guard
