History of Vernon, Utah

Vernon is a small agricultural, cattle, and hay settlement on U-36, thirty-six miles south of Tooele. The area was settled by whites in April 1862. One of the settlers was Joseph Vernon, who was killed by a local Indian, Tabby Weeput,* during the early settlement days.
