UCOLO Ucolo (San Juan) is a small ranching community west of the Colorado border and north of US-666. Ucolo encloses Piute Springs country and was headquarters for the Carlisle Cattle Company in the 1880s. In 1912, as the open range became more restricted with fencing, the families of John T. Cardwell and Frank Ellington became the first settlers. Ucolo is an anagram for Utah-Colorado. John W. Van Cott |
