Tushar Mountains (Beaver) is a mountain range between Beaver on the west and Junction and Marysvale on the east. There are two versions of the name origin. Dutton described two preeminent cones (Belknap and Baldy) that ended in sharp cusps. The words "cusp" and "tush" are similar in meaning and tushar becomes a descriptive name-the Tushar Mountains. Beckwith writes that the local indian word for the mountain was "t'shar," meaning the white mountain, because it was always covered with snow. Anglicized, T'shar becomes Tushar-the Tushar Mountains. Cox also points out that legend records an ancient tribe of Indians called the Tushari lived on the mountains.
