Rowley Junction (Tooele) is forty-four miles west of Salt Lake City on I-80. The settlement had an earlier name of Timpie Juction, "timpie" being Goshute Indian for "rock." The name was changed to Rowley Junction around 1970 when a chemical processing plant was built on the shore of nearby Great Salt Lake.
