SOLDIER SUMMIT

Soldier Sumit (Wasatch) is at the summit midway between Thistle and Helper. It is a fact that serveral soldiers are buried at the summit, but the exact details of how they got there vary. One of the more reliable versions is that shortly after the beginning of the Civil War, when Camp Floyd (near Fairfield) was disbanded, the soldiers were reassigned to other posts. Several soldiers either became ill and died at the summit or were caught there in a blizzard. The small community of Soldier Summit developed in 1862. In recent years, as transportation has improved, the community has diminished in size and importance.
