INDEPENDENCE Independence (Uintah). In 1906 the settlement was midway between Myton and Fort Duchesne. Independence was a monument to the folly of unhesitatingly believing land speculators. This alkaline land grew only salt grass, but was advertised and sold by speculators as prime farmland. After monies were collected, the promoters skipped town. In 1912 the site was abandoned. John W.
