DUGWAY Dugway (Tooele) was initiated in 1942 as a military installation with restricted entry. Approximately one thousand people live in this area. In pioneer days, the name developed from a novel procedure where one lone winding horizontal trench was dug along a steep slope where travel was essential. The trench held the two wheels on the upper side of a wagon, preventing it from slipping downhill or tipping over. John W. Van Cott |
