CLIFTON Clifton (Tooele) is a ghost town site in the Clifton Hills, four an one-half miles south of Gold Hill and fifty miles south of Wendover. Valuable ore was discovered there in 1858 and in 1872 a smelter was built. The production at the smelter did not meet expectations and was soon closed down. The town received its name from the surrounding broken, rugged country. John W. Van Cott |
