| History of Clifton, Utah |
|
Clifton (Tooele) is a ghost town site in the Clifton Hills, four an one-half miles south of Gold Hill and fifty miles south of Wendover. Valuable ore was discovered there in 1858 and in 1872 a smelter was built. The production at the smelter did not meet expectations and was soon closed down. The town received its name from the surrounding broken, rugged country. |
