History of Altamont, Utah
Courtesy of Utah Place Names.

Altamont (Duchesne) is on the upper benchlands of the south central slopes of the Uinta Mountains. Three miles to the north is Altonah and four miles to the east is Bluebell. Altamont received its name in 1936 through a contest sponsored by the high school student body. The composite name submitted by Clarence Snyder refers to Altonah and Mt. Emmons, a nearby peak.
