History of Snow Canyon, Utah
-

Snow Canyon (Washington) is a state park 11 miles (17.70 km) northwest of St. George and just 4.8 miles (7.72 km) north of Santa Clara. Ivins, 2.6 miles (4.18 km) southwest is nearby.

The canyon was named in 1861 for LDS church leaders, Erastus & Lorenzo Snow. Contrary to the name, snow rarely falls in this area.

The canyon is a conglomerate of red navajo sandstone formations, high cliffs, sand dunes, volcanic cones, caves and ponds. Many trails both short and easy to long and challenging crisscross the canyon.

Amenities in the area include a campground including trailer sites, utility hookups, tent sites, modern rest rooms and showers, waste disposal, a picnic area and drinking water. The Tuacahn Amphitheater close by provides great family entertainment.
